Hungary, Slovakia start clarifying disputes, PM says

Budapest - The summit meeting failed to put an end to all differences in views but started to clarify them, Hungarian Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai told reporters after meeting his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico in Szecseny on Thursday.

"Bilateral relations are burdened by fear, paranoia and past mistakes. This meeting gave a chance for the two countries to embark on the road towards settling their disputes," Bajnai said.

The prime minister emphasised the two countries' interest in learning from the errors committed in the past hundred years and before, saying that both Hungary and Slovakia have much to lose.

Bajnai called it a common responsibility that in a period of economic crisis Hungarian-Slovak relations should not be determined by artificially lashed up sentiments.
